Traditionally the stereotypical poker player has been male, however, the online gaming industry is waking up to the fact that women enjoy a flutter just as much as men. Although the sexes play for different reasons men for the thrill of beating the house and women for entertainment and escapism, whatever the reason for the bet there is a huge previously untapped poker market waiting to be utilized.

Previously many online poker roooms had sexist adverts to attract the male poker player with pictures of half naked women in suggestive poses drawing in the roving male eye. However, the more forward thinking poker sites are realizing the average intelligent woman will not be lured to their site by these archaic forms of advertising and instead are coming up with new and innovative ideas to appeal to the new female poker playing market.

They are doing this by tailoring their sites to resemble the female orientated magazine format that women traditionally enjoy. However, before we see a radical change in the traditional on line gaming industry we need to see more women appointed to key positions in the gaming industry as only a woman knows how a woman’s mind really works.
