Although the United States are trying to recover from the economic downfall, the World Series of Poker is predicted to not be affected by the crisis. Las Vegas is surely going through hard times; the once buzzing hometown of gambling, night life and exotic living is now trying to see its way out of the labyrinth it has fallen in to, with multiple strikes both from the economy and the impact of the boosting online gaming community.

Rooms in a Las Vegas resort are now cheaper than any room in any popular metropolitan hotel of New York, London, Tokyo, Moscow or any other of the top worldwide destinations.

Why is poker different?
Where poker makes the difference is that together with bingo they are the two sectors of the gaming industry which seem to be recession proof; each industry for different reasons. What I mean; Both Poker and Online Poker are very much different from any other sector of the gaming industry as possess a charm, the game has nothing to do with slots or the roulette although the game falls in to the chapter called gambling.

The fact that it is primarily a game of skill with the luck element being its topping is what makes it charming, attractive and such a legendary game. Another factor that professionals say is important to people’s perception of poker as a game is that when playing poker or poker online you are not playing against the house, you are playing against other people.

That makes a major difference to the mentality or the overall perception of people towards the game and where wagering is going to, players get a feeling that their wagers stay in a tight circle of players, meaning that their goal is to practice and get sharper to get the wagered money back in their pocket on a bonus.

The WSOP
Now back to the WSOP, we got lost there; the event has been and always will be a major attraction point for poker players from across the five continents, it is as mentioned in previous posts the ultimate poker gathering where the best of the best meet to challenge; the WSOP is the Olympic Games of the poker industry.

The online poker boom, has just come to add up to the overall recognition of the event with players visioning the dream of Chris Moneymaker becoming their poker reality. Online poker players don’t see the WSOP as only a gathering, they see it as the arena in which they will prove who they are when it comes to poker play.

Harrah’s have done an excellent promotion of the event as the event has received promotion from multiple channels, building up the brand name very much, we don’t anticipate the WSOP to feel the impact of the crisis but lets wait and see before we make any final verdict!
