Poker Books Vs Holdem Vs No Limit Holdem
Most poker strategy books available have one and only similarity, they explain competitive situations, they talk about the game as if they are planning to prepare you through a book to sit on the same table with Doyle Brunson or I don’t know Phil Ivey.
Of course I’m sure there is new players which know their game, but the people that go in to the trouble of buying a book are people that are trying to understand the game better, they are not the people you will see on the WSOP this summer.
The majority of poker books out there make it whey too complicated, often making people think its some kind of a grand philosophy in getting to know your game, they have written books that only pro’s would benefit from and we all know that the pro’s don’t read books, they write them.
If your a beginner the first think you should delete from your head and I mean format your brain forever is that your game is advisable to be tight aggressive, as most modern books would advise you. It’s no invention it’s just a new trend these days from some small time hot shots who feel they are the next Jesus Ferguson of the world.
It can only be considered as normal to have so many books out there, as the poker community is being populated with new players and there is too many experts out there trying to sell books, videos, tutorials and I don’t know what else, the bottom line; is it’s no science, it’s a game, a skill game; don’t let them get you off track.
Take it easy, enjoy the game, you don’t become an ace overnight. As I always say you might have the tendency or the gift to become a poker player but you need to cultivate the gift.
Moving in to deep waters and turning in to an aggressive player as most modern books will teach you will just force you away from the game over time as you will be slapped and beaten again and again.
One thing you will surely notice sooner or later if you play aggressive in No Limit Hold’em is that you won’t be making much, you will be waiting for AA, KK or AK and you will soon come to the realization that when everyone folds you get beaten and I mean badly beaten.
