Similar to many professional poker players Mike Matusow’s career began as a card dealer. After many, many hours spent dealing cards and going through analysis of poker hands, Mike decided to start playing for himself. He sharpened his skills by playing late-night games at Sam’s Town Casino in Las Vegas and once he achieved some success, he finally switched full time poker play.

His first WSOP bracelet was acquired in 1999 and his second in 2002. He also gave a strong presence at the 2005 WSOP, by finishing ninth in the Main Event and cashing for $1 million. It was his magical year as he followed up his Main Event show by striking victory on the 2005 WSOP Tournament of Champions and therefore earning his second million-dollar payday of the year.

In the following year 2006 he managed to finish second in the No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the Las Vegas “FullTiltPoker.Net Pro Showdown from Red Rock Casino,” and only 3 days later he finished third in the No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the Tournament of Champions, also in Las Vegas.
It was only a month later, when he had a final table appearance in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em event at the 2006 WSOP, where he ranked seventh and cashed for almost $90,000.

2007 was Mike Matusow’s lucky year as he held even more successes by taking second place in the prestigious Bellagio Cup III WPT No-Limit Hold ‘em Championship event, taking away $671,320 for his performance. He followed with a successful campaign at the 2007 WSOP where he posted three top-20 finishes and cashed more than $125,000.

Since the start of 2008, Mike had several moments of glory as he secured ninth-place finish in the National Heads-Up Championship where he earned $25,000 and striked again in the Wynn Classic to earn another $26,000. It was Event 18 of the WSOP where he hit his peak when he bested an all-star field of 85 entries in the $5K No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event and took home over $537,000 and his third WSOP BRACELET.

Mike Matusow plays poker online and is a member of the Full Tilt Poker Team.
