Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker has a story that would be most appropriate for a film, he won his position on the 2003 WSOP through PokerStars by wagering $40 at the site which ended up making him $2,500,000.
After securing his position to the event Moneymaker was caught in the dilemma of how he would pay for accommodation and travelling expenses in order to participate on the event back in 2003.
After a sponsor from his father and a friend Moneymaker landed at the WSOP back in 2003 and made an appearance that has been passed on to the history of Poker Playing. Christopher Brian Moneymaker is the man who changed the WSOP, he is said to have great luck with cards and surely that has made its contribution to his destiny, but that doesn’t change the fact that Moneymaker is a legend.
It is well mentioned that he had never participated on a tournament before his appearance on the WSOP in 2003.
On the first day of the event Moneymaker had Johnny Chan to his right and Phil Ivey to his left which was made him take the decision that its now or never, he realized that it wasn’t the correct time to get thoughtful and afraid. He realized that a beat would change his life too much, so what was the harm in trying.
He did exactly that; Moneymaker went all in with his pocket 8s against Humberto Brenes pocket A’s, catching the 8 and therefore sending Humberto to the rail; it was Moneymaker’s lucky day. If Chris knew that Humberto was holding the pocket aces, then it would be a terrible mistake, but Moneymaker didn’t know.
The legend won the final hand with a full house, fives full of fours, knocking out the veteran of ring games, Sam Farha. Farha received $1.3 million for his second place finish and Chris made himself $2,500,000.
He was an accountant at the time but he now travels around the world as a spokesman for poker products as he has become an all-time celebrity and a legend among online poker players which seek to see his story repeated.
